Ballardvale within Andover, Massachusetts, is a historic community located along the Shawsheen River's shores, which runs north of Andover, with structures on both sides of the river and centered around the village mill and industry. It also includes structures on Andover Street, High Street, and Center Street, and flourishes surrounding Andover's perimeter. The community, however, is most recognized for its role in the production of wool for early America, and it is home to a number of significant architectural structures and artifacts trailing back to the 18th century, earning it a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in October 1982. Today, the area is notable for having a large number of rich residents, including professionals, managers, and corporate leaders, as well as having one of the lowest rates of child poverty in the United States. The area is also endowed with a diverse range of tribes and languages, with the Greeks and French Canadians having the most, while English is spoken by the majority of the population.

Ballardvale was founded in the 18th century as a consequence of an inflow of people drawn to the riverfront region. The village's name was taken from one of its early residents, the Ballard Family, who established sawmills and grist mills that supplied the entire country at the time. By 1836, high-value items such as stoneware ceramics, locomotives, shoes, and carriages were consistently produced in the area, thanks to the establishment's encouragement of population expansion and development. The Ballard Manufacturing Company, founded by John and Wilian Marland in 1836, is also noteworthy. The enterprise contributed to the district's fame by producing the first wool worsted created in America, as well as the white flannels for which the Ballardvale was famous. By 1848, the neighborhood had been plotted out, and structures such as businesses, railroads, and residential residences had been built in various styles such as Italianate, Gothic Revival, Greek Revival, and Queen Anne Style Victorian.

Historic structures such as the Andover mill and the Ballardvale Fire Station can still be found on the streets of Andover. The street also houses the Ballardvale train station, playgrounds, stores, restaurants, and the historic Ballardvale Park, which was refurbished in 2015. Ballard Green Park is situated at the crossroads of Andover and Center Streets. The 1881 St. Augustine Mission Church, which is still operational today, is located on High Vale Street. Ballardvale United Church, which was founded in 1995 by merging Congregational Church and Methodist Episcopal Church, is the district's second historic church and is located on Clark Road near Hall Avenue.

Eateries in the district include Spinners Pizza Parlor, Crack D', Bartlet Street Andover, and Somebody's Place.. Ballardvale is also home to top business headquarters and Education companies including that of Harvard University, MIT, Boston University, Tuft University and Northeastern University to mention a few. It also has several Elementary schools including Bancroft Elementary School and The Pike School. Shawsheen Village neighborhood near by, is also a delight to visit.
